Did You Know?

Most, if not all, homeowner’s policies include personal property coverage for things like televisions, couches, appliances, etc. but did you know that there are limits for theft and other risks on certain items like firearms, jewelry and silverware.

Scheduling personal items like firearms and jewelry is a way to specifically list an item, like a wedding ring or family heirloom, for a specific amount of money that covers this item, or scheduled item, for almost ever type of loss.

An example, if a wedding ring slips off your finger while in the yard or anywhere and is lost, it is covered. This is not true for items that are not scheduled.

If that wedding ring is stolen from your home there is generally a limit of $1000 to $1500 for theft of jewelry, so if the ring was worth $5000 you will still only receive $1000 to $1500 or whatever the policy specifies.

Scheduled items are also not subject to your policies deductible.

Flood Insurance: True or False?

Homeowners insurance covers flooding? False! Unfortunately many home and business owners do not find out until it’s too late that their homeowners and business multi−peril policies do not cover flooding.

The National Flood Insurance Policy (NFIP) offers a separate policy that protects the single most important financial asset, which for most people is their home or business.
